August Favourites
As a creative ( and a prolific procrastinator... ) I am constantly in search of inspiration. I watch waaaay too many YouTube videos and I probably spend a little too much of my time listening to and discovering new music, as well as consuming podcasts on a regular basis.
Nonetheless, I thought I might put some of all that time to good use and share my favourite pieces of content every month. I hope you'll like it!
Videos
Ok, this video was technically posted last month, but I simply have to share it. Tim Kellner (@timtothewild) has been one of my favourite filmmakers and biggest sources of inspiration for years now. His ability to capture moments and evoke emotions in his short films is simply unparalleled. Couple this with the fact that he composes his own music for his videos just makes it that much more impressive. His latest film "City of Dreams" is probably my favourite of all of his videos along with his "Arctic" video. If you haven't heard of him before, be sure to check him out!
SPOILER ALERT! If you aren't caught up on the latest two episodes of Game of Thones, DO NOT WATCH this video!!!
However, if you are, and if you're just half the obsessive GoT nerd that I am, I think you'll really like this video. Nerdwriter has been my favourite video essay channel on YouTube for quite a while now, and his ability to deconstruct everything from filmography to music and politics is simply so damn interesting. This is obviously one of his more lighthearted videos that doesn't deal with the ever so messed up political climate in the U.S., but merely an analysis of the latest battle on Game of Thrones and the previous work that has inspired it.
Music
I have the horrible habit of listening to a song over and over and over again when I find something I like, which means that I quickly get tired of songs. To combat that I spend a lot of time searching for new music to listen to, as well as to serve as sources of inspiration or even as tracks to my videos (I promise there will be more of those coming soon). Even though I find some music on Soundcloud, most of it can be found on Spotify, so I gather my favourite songs every month in a playlist. A definite standout discovery from this month is Ady Suleiman, which one of my friends introduced me to. For those of you that are more into hip-hop (even though I am no huge hip-hop buff at all... I rely on my friends to keep my up to speed), "Get Right Witcha" by Migos has been playing in my head all morning while writing this.
Podcasts
This podcast isn't new at all, but I listened to it for the third time this month. It simply has so many golden nuggets in it that can really change your perspective on how you react to social situations and how to improve your own social skills. Beware however, you will catch yourself analysing people a little bit during converstations after learning about "micro-expressions" in this podcast.
Photos
Lastly but certainly not least, these are my favourite photos of the month. I've had a tough time figuring out how to share these in the best way. I've decided to do it as links to the artists' respective instagrams by clicking on the photos themselves to best insure you have the opportunity to check out their work. These photos have been my biggest inspirations this August.
